Rashidi Rubuni

Rubuni was born in 1969 in Livangula, Tanzania. He came to Dar es Salaam in 1988 in search of work and found employment as a housekeeper. However, after a year, he resigned and wrote a letter to the Tingatinga Cooperative requesting to be employed as a painter. His teacher became Mzee Chimwanda.

In 1993, he got married and currently lives with his wife and two children in Kawe, north of Dar es Salaam. Rubuni Rashidi has built his name and is a well-known Tingatinga painter, with his paintings distinguished by their high quality.

In 2010, his works were utilized by designer Ayumi Sufu (Jazzkatze) from Tokyo, who showcased a dress inspired by his work at the Tokyo Fashion Spring Show. In 2008, Rubuni Rashidi’s works were exhibited in Sweden (Lilagalerie).
